Exclusive interview with Anabi Tattoo by Iva Kanceska 04/05/2009
Q: Your love for ink started where?
A: Since I was a kid I used to like drawing :) I was reading a lot
of books and comic books, drawing my favorites heroes and make my
own histories :)
Q: How long have you been tattooing?
A: The first tattoo I made was in the fall of '99 but let's be
honest- that wasn't a piece of art ;)) I was tattooing only from
time to time... Breakthrough followed in 2007, I began tattooing
almost every day...
Q: What did your family and friends think about you getting
into the tattoo business?
A: I didn't ask anybody for permission- I just began ;) At my early
beginnings my mum always used to say that tattooing isn't a good job
for life, but now I think my parents are proud of me :) My dad got
one tattoo, made by me. :)

Q: Do you have any formal art training?
A: I think that maybe it could've help me to be better, but I wasn't
in art school at the time.
Q: What would you say that is your favorite part of the job?
A: Meet new cool people and creating an interesting project's on
their skin!
Q: You color tattoos are awesome! What do you prefer color
or black n' grey ink?
A: Thank You! I like making color works but B&W tattoos also give me
the pleasure.

Q: Photo realistic style is one of the most popular styles
on the tattoo scene. How long does it takes for you to make some
portrait?
A: I have a long way to go to making my work photo realistic, but
this don't make me crazy. From now, I made only three portraits. I
hope that more will come soon...
Q: As a tattoo artist... Which style of tattooing you find
as most difficult?
A: From a technical side good old school style is very difficult,
from artistic side-photo realistic works.
Q: What do you prefer a custom design or some flash art?
A: I haven't any flashes displayed for my customers... Every client
got custom piece from me, except some kind of artworks or
photographers, like animal, plants, etc that I used as references...
I make a lot of freehand works too.

Q: What is the opinion about tattoos in Poland? Are they
taboo or they are super popular?
A: Tattoos in Poland year by year are more and more popular. We have
got five tattoo conventions in Poland and two regularly issues
tattoo magazines at this moment.
Q: Over the last year or so, I’ve been seeing more and more
‘kids' under 18 with tattoos. What do you think about this?
A: I disagree that aberrance! Many young people wants tattoo as soon
as it possible but in my studio I explain them that is not good
idea.

Q: Which is the strangest request you have ever had for a
tattoo?
A: For me strange thing is asking for a tattoo that celebs,
musicians and other stars already got....
Why they want a copy of a crappy tattoo when we can create something
unique and personal design???

Q: Are there any tattoos you refuse to do? Like words who
endues racism etc?
A: Yes, I don't make tribal, Chinese sings, lettering, stars and
other kind of hackneyed top motives... I just hate them! Also I
refuse motives to offend any religion... I've got custom tattoo shop
so I try to make custom work only!

Q: I've always wanted to know, is it good to get tattooed
when you are pregnant ? Have you tattooed a pregnant woman?
A: Pregnant woman should not get a tattoo! She should reduce any
risk ,get tattooed is also in this group of potential risk for
children.

Q: Have you ever meet any famous tattoo artists?
A: Yes, I have met personally some of them at tattoo conventions-Pavel
Angel, Jack Ribeiro, Waldi Wahn, Pete Bobek, Pornstar, Ed Perdomo,
Boris and many more amazing names. Also I've got tattoos from Zhivko,
Jo Harrison and in a month I'll go to Madrit for second tattoo from
Robert Hernandez.
Q: What do you like doing in your spare time?
A: I spend whole days in my tattoo shop... When I'm not tattooing,
I'm spend my time at drawing, making new tattoo designs, working in
gym and spend some time with my girlfriend and friends.

Q: If there is one thing you could change about the tattoo
business, what would it be?
A: Everyday I try to show people that they can ask for piece of art
made specially for them, not just another some ink under skin... I
wish that people can choose a good artist without watching at cheap
price and quick appointment... And I wish to break arms for all
scratches that bring shame at tattoo industry and bad opinions about
tattoos!
