interview with Bacanu Bogdan
Hello Bacanu Bogdan! Thank you so
much for taking the time to do this interview. Please start by
telling us something about yourself, when did you start tattooing?
I was 16 years old when I started. I made a homemade tattoo machine,
but that was just a quick try and I didn't stick to it. But
I think the time I've decided to really try tattooing, was when I
was 21, six years ago. I bought my first machine and I started
tattooing my friends.
Q: You're very talented. How would you describe your
style?
A: Well I don't think I have a very particular style, yet I'm still
working on it, but I think I prefer doing more realistic and
surrealistic tattoos.
Q: Do you
prefer black & gray style?
A: Actually I do prefer black & gray, but I don't mind
doing color once in a while.
Q: How do you get inspired?
A: Traveling and photography is a good way, also trying to absorb
art from everywhere, like paintings and sculptures. I enjoy reading
philosophy and starting from the note that the only sense of
existence is to find one, I usually find sense and ideas in
everything.
Q: A few words about the creative process.
A:
Usually I start from a photograph reference and manipulate it in
photoshop and the rest I will do directly on skin, or free hand. I
really enjoy the first time I do a tattoo, so I prefer working
with something new all the time, that helps me being enthusiastic
all the time.
Q: How long does it take to book an appointment?
A: Well normally around 5 months, more or less.
Q: Any tattoo designs you simply won't tattoo?
A: I don't tattoo every style. I like doing my thing and apply my
vision, leaving a little bit of me behind, I think this is the best
way.
Q: What are the
most interesting experiences with the clients?
A: It keeps changing, over the time. I've met some amazing people
and I don't think I can choose one experience to share.
Q: You're working as a guest spot at Tattoostudio
Nadelwerk in Austria. How often do you work as a guest spot
artist?
A: Usually 2 or 3 times a year but I guess if I'll have the
opportunity I will do more, I love traveling.
Q: What keeps you motivated?
A: I try to always do something new and move forward, avoid working
twice on the same projects and of curse I always study my own work
to find weak spots and improve them.
Q: What is the biggest mistake when it comes
progress?
A: I think is the time when you consider yourself as too good, start
admire yourself in a narci way and stop pushing your boundaries.
Q: What would you improve?
A: Everything, technically and creatively.
Q: Your advice for the new artists?
A: My advice will be to just keep going, push forward and always
have an open mind.
