Interview with Cebaz tattoo | Realism Style | Lleida, Spain | 11/08/2020
Hello Cebaz! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer some questions for our readers. It's a pleasure to exchange some of my thoughts with you. I've seen many cool tattoos in your portfolio, from crazy portraits to beautiful black and gray fantasy motives, very creative. I hope we will inspire the people out there with our conversation and maybe some will get into this business too.
Q: How long have you been tattooing? How hard was to learn
the basics skills? Anyone helped you?
A: The first contact was 13 years ago. I have been professionally
tattooing for 6 years. It was very difficult since I lived in a very
poor neighborhood and there were no resources, but there was a
desire to learn, so much so, that I made my first machine with a
cassette motor, a bent spoon and a wire.
Q: What kept you motivated during the process? We all know
that every beginning is hard.
A: My wife is the one who motivated me to resume my dream of
tattooing. She has always supported me especially when no one else
wanted to help me.
Q: How much time took you to gain confidence in your work?
Who were some of your first clients?
A: It took me 8 years to trust myself, I am very demanding of
myself. My first clients were my friends from the neighborhood!
- Do you keep some photos from your first tattoos?
Yes! photos and templates! I keep them with great affection.
Q: I really love your portrait tattoos. Such a beautiful
detailed work. I love when you play with some colors too that gives
a special touch and make the final result even more interesting.
Where do you find your inspiration?
A: In women and in daily life.
Q: The girls with the blue eyes and the clock design in the
background... oh my favorite designs! Is that like a special style
or it's something that you invented? It looks awesome!!
A: It is a compilation of everything learned, but in the end little
by little it has become my personal style, which has led me to
travel and meet more artists!
Q: Do you take more sessions to complete the whole tattoo or
all can be done in one sitting?
A: I used to finish it in one session, but I have realized that the
ideal is to do a second session to reinforce blacks, clean shadows
and define details. That makes a difference!
Q: I find your work really unique. Do you draw a bunch of
sketches for each client or? I'm happy that nowadays we have digital
art, so it's easier and quicker to design stuff. Tell me more about
the creative process.
A: I usually make a design and work as much as possible, playing
with expressions, makeup and other details to get something unique
and original for each person!
Q: How is your connection with the customers, do you give
them some suggestions?
A: Usually, clients give me the elements they want and give me the
freedom to create the design however I want!
Q: Being constantly busy is hard. Some people think being a
tattoo artist is fun but is it? What are some of the most
challenging but rewarding aspects of this job?
A: The more complicated is the time you have to dedicate yourself to
it, but at the same time I am passionate about it. It is the fish
that bites the tail!
Q: Do you travel a lot, like visiting tattoo conventions,
expos etc? How much the foreign experience can help in order to grow
as an artist? Do you have any favorite artists you look up to?
A: Yes, I usually travel once a month and for me it is one of the
most important things at a personal and work level. I learn a lot
especially from the people and cultures from each country! Of course
also from other tattoo artists.
Q: What is your advice for those who are willing to start
tattooing?
A: Perseverance, discipline and a lot of patience!
Please write down your contact info.
