Interview with Ty Nathan McEwen by Iva
Kanceska 22/ 10 / 2011
Hello Mr. McEwen! I'm very happy that I got the chance to make an interview
with you. Honestly, I'm a huge fan of your art. It seems like there is even
more than
just a talent ... I was amazed when I saw your tattoo works. There are so
many styles that you do and all of them describes your love and dedication
for all you do.
Awesome, indeed!
In the very beginning of this interview, please feel free to tell us more
about your starts in this job, your first experiences etc...
Q: What made you to become a tattoo artist?
A: I've always wanted to be an artist, I was influenced by the art of Guy
Aitchison and Paul Booth.
Q: Like I said, your tattoo art is amazing. How much time was
necessary for you to get into this great level?
A: Personally, I feel like I am at no great level, I still have much to
learn. You get out what you put in... So keep pushing always. Never stop
never get comfortable.
Q: Some people say that it is possible to be self though artist.
What are your thoughts about this? What is the best way to learn how to
tattoo?
A: Well I'm self taught, although i got a lot of guidance and mentoring from
John Montgomery and Carson Hill. I still constantly learn from my peers and
friends in and outside of the industry... I say do it right and work hard as
a apprentice in a reputable shop.
Q: Seems like your passion is doing color tattoos. Most of them have
strong lines and great highlights. Which is so impressive, at least for me.
Do you consider this style of work as your specialty?
A: No specifically, I prefer Bio organic artwork and organic style that
flows with the form of the body's natural curves and flatters the wearer. I
think any subject matter can be applied to this. But also I enjoy doing
other subject matter just doing it like if I was wearing it would I be happy
with the outcome.
Q: Tattooing is an art. Where do you find your creativity when you
have to come up with a tattoo for someone?
A: Everywhere. The world all around us is filled with constant inspiration.
Look hard!
Q: Do you get caught up emotionally when you tattoo/paint or you
keep that separate?
A: Often, but the focus is the key to make quality art.
Q: You color tattoos are really awesome! What do you prefer color or
black n grey ink?
A: I feel that some tattoos need to be color an others black and grey ..
it's a "feeling" thing.
Q: As tattooist... Which style of tattooing you find as most
difficult?
A: The Bio organic style.
Q: Tattoos are personal sign for everyone. Are there any tattoos you
refuse to do? Like words with racist meanings, politic etc..?
A: Of course ! If I'm not ok with the subject matter or the client I'm not
going to work with them. I need to be as comfortable as the client while the
tattooing process is going on. I want everyone(myself included) to have a
good experience.
Q: Art could be a great influence on someone's personality. What is
the best lesson that you've learned from you long tattoo journey?
A: Be yourself.
Q: What is the biggest challenge in this job for you?
A: Clients and adjusting to their personalities.
Q: What can we expect from you in the future? Things that you would
like to do and have not done yet?
A: Just more and bigger bodies of work. I'm quite eager to tattoo more and
bigger Bio organic styled works inspired from various things in the nature.
