How to Make Progress In Your Art
Are things routine and unchallenging for you? It could be that
you have gotten so proficient at what you are doing and that may be
hindering your progress. If you are not growing beyond your present
circumstances then it is very likely you are not making any
progress.
For many of us, a large chunk of the creative process can involve
just staring into space, waiting for our muse to send us a bolt from
the blue. Trouble is, the better you get at your chosen art form,
the less time you have to wait around for that pesky muse.
No matter what artistic field you specialize in, the following tips
will help you to stay at your most productive when working on your
creative pursuits.
1. Set Daily, Weekly, or Monthly Goals
Pull out your calendar. Mark your due date. Work backwards from that
due date to today’s date, and develop a progress checklist for each
day. Also include end of the week goals and monthly progress goals
as well, if you are planning that far in advance. If you have a
plan, a structured plan, it’s far easier to be productive every day
when you are working on creative projects.
2. Keep an open mind
Yeah, Open your mind and develop your creativity! Give yourself a
time and listen to music. Make a playlist of your favorite bands and
the ideas will come for a short time.
3. Keep a Journal/Sketchbook Handy
Never go anywhere without some method of recording flashes of
inspiration, whether it is a journal, a sketchbook, or a note-taking
app on your smartphone. This is helpful for recording ideas as they
come to you, so that you don’t have to wrack your brains later and
waste time “being creative” to come up with a new idea.
4. Draw, Draw and Draw
Drawing is like a basic in every kind of fine art. You must develop
your drawing skills to the highest level. The more you draw, the
more you get better. After all, who doesn't want to draw?
5. Take a class
Taking some advices from people with a lot of experience is always
welcome! This will help you to get better and even more - to get
more creative. Talking about art, visiting courses, hang out with
people, visiting exhibitions will make you more creative and your
inspiration will grow.
6. Achieve your ideas
Once ideas start brewing, it seems there’s no end to creativity. But
the down side is that many things get started only to be abandoned
for something shinier and newer. Give your ideas the respect and
room they deserve and see them to the finish. But, be careful not to
waste your valuable time on ideas that are flat.
7. Exhibit
The key is to get your art in a public space where there’s
opportunity for conversation and even criticism. Approach coffee
shops, small galleries, boutiques, and even real estate agents who
would know about open houses that need a decorative piece for
staging. Seeing your work on display helps you to see what works
what might need to go back to the proverbial drawing board.
