Upper Lip Piercing Possible Risks

Also know as Angel Bites Piercing, consists of two upper lip piercings. With this kind of piercing only labret studs are used. An angel bites piercing is a version of the Monroe (or Madonna or Crawford) piercing. The Monroe piercing is a piercing that is done off center and above the upper lip.

Possible risks and effects:

After a piercing of this nature, the lip may swell a lot. You will need to keep the facial area where the piercing is and the oral (mouth) area clean and both sides of the jewelry clean. Generally it takes eight to 12 weeks for a piercing to heal but many lip piercings heal in about half that time.

There is a chance that the superior labial area, situated just above the upper lip, could be pierced when getting angel bites or Monroe piercings.

Gums and Teeth

Take into consideration that this kind of piercing can damage your teeth and gums because the back disk of the metal jewelry rubs against the teeth and gums. This can cause enamel erosion and gum recession. You may want to wear a plastic labret stud to reduce the chances of this happening.

Angel bites and the Monroe piercing don't hurt as much as getting pierced in other areas because the above-lip area contains only a few nerves and it is soft. Men may feel more pain than women because their upper lip area is tougher due to regular shaving.

Wash your hands more often throughout the day, especially before you touch
your piercing. Do not allow someone touch your piercing with dirty hands.

It's nice to use some Ibuprofen to help keep the swelling and tenderness
down. It could be helpful to take away some pain of the pierced area.

Eat healthy food full with vitamin B and vitamin C. That will keep you fresh and healthy so your immune system will work properly and it will keep you away from unwanted infections and diseases. Fast food is not recommended for this period.

It's very important to keep the pierced area clean. Be super responsible in this period and clean the area gently with soap and water and a cotton swab or cotton ball.

Gently remove any buildup that forms around the piercing at least twice a day.

Brush your teeth twice a day to help get rid of bacteria in the mouth. Using saltwater would be also very helpful to speed up the healing process.

Don't be afraid to turn the piercing in your lip at least twice a day so it doesn't stick or heal improperly
